Spiders on the floor

These days, being semi-retired, I find myself going to be early (9:00 pm) and rising in the mornings anywhere from 5:00 am to 7:00 am.  Without fail, my first task is to put on my bathrobe, open the door to 3 males cats who have been sitting there patiently waiting for someone to open the closed door, walk down to the kitchen to parse out on the countertop treats for the cats, and finally to turn towards the coffee pot and pour a cup of coffee (that was intentionally made the night before to avoid waiting) and heat it in the microwave for 60 seconds.

Invariably, during this entire process from leaving the bed (not the bedroom) until putting the cup of coffee into the microwave, I will have stepped upon (and cursed) numerous plastic spiders that my wife had purchased as toys for the cats.  In fact, our house has plastic spiders all over the floors not just in the living room and kitchen but in the bedrooms and bathrooms as well.  In fact, I would venture to say that if we called in a pest control company, they would report to us that we have 50-100 spiders in the house.  Having spiders on the floor has become just as much a part of our lifestyle as having three cats.

Scotoma of the eye - looks like a spider...

Having spiders on the floor is like having a scotomaSo, what is a scotoma?  It is a mental blind spot preventing us from seeing or understanding or even believing certain matters.  You might have a scotoma where you believe that you cannot understand math or physics or chemistry so you shy away from taking courses in those areas.  Or, you might tell yourself that you have a fear of bees for whatever reason and therefore you could never be a bee farmer.  Or, you may think that you do not have what it takes to be successful, so you do not even try.  In other words, you have spiders all over the floor (of your mind) and that is all that you see or that you will allow yourself to see.

In the picture on the left, do you see the woman?

Do you see both women or do you have a scotoma?

What else is keeping you from accomplishing what you
would like to do?
