I’d like to teach the World to Sing

What is posted below was sent to me via email by a former colleague who considers himself a Libertarian, but that is beside the point.  What struck me as worthy of sharing was the fact that this information came from the Washington Post (a reliable Washington, DC newspaper) and the fact that “universal love” was the key ingredient of what most of us rebelling souls believed in during our college days in the 60’s.  Please read, discuss, verify authenticity, and decide for yourself what you want to take away.  Thank you, Alex Hutchins

Yes, he told us in advance
what he planned to do.
Few were listening.

The following is a narrative taken from a 2008 Sunday morning televised "Meet The Press."
From Sunday's 07 Sept. 2008, 11:48:04 EST,  Televised "Meet the Press" the then Senator Obama was asked about his stance on the American Flag.

General Bill Ginn, USAF (ret.), asked Obama to explain WHY he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

The General stated to Obama that according to the  United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171...

During rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present (except those in uniform) are expected to stand at attention, facing the flag, with the right hand over the heart.  Or, at the very least, "Stand and Face It".

NOW GET THIS !!

'Senator' Obama replied:
"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides....."  "There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression...."  "The anthem itself conveys a war-like message.  You know, the bombs bursting in air, and all that sort of thing."

(ARE YOU READY FOR THIS???)

Obama continued:
"The National Anthem should be 'swapped' for something less parochial and less bellicose.  I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing.'   If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.   In my opinion, we should consider reinventing our National Anthem as well as 'redesign' our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love.  It's my intention, if elected, to disarm  America to the level of acceptance to our  Middle East   Brethren.   If we, as a Nation of warring people, conduct ourselves like the nations of Islam, where peace prevails - - - perhaps a state or period of mutual accord could exist between our governments ..."

"When I become President, I will seek a pact of agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts .We as a Nation, have placed upon the nations of Islam, an unfair injustice, which is WHY my wife disrespects the Flag, and she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past."

"Of course now, I have found myself about to become the President of the United States and I have put my hatred aside.  I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path.  My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country's First black Family.  Indeed, CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America."

WHAAAAAAAT, is that???
Yes, you read it right.
I, for one, am speechless!!!
Dale Lindsborg, Washington Post

THE STORY IS 'FALSE' ALEX.  Please see the facts at SNOPES.  This email has been generated by Tea Party bigots for years.  It's totally FALSE.

Vic,
do not want to get in another ping pong match with you on this blog, but, if you read my introduction, I suggest to the reader that they verify authenticity of what I posted.......

The reader bears some responsibility in deciding what we post is accurate or not.....

Right now, no one is checking out what we say, other than you, and you only seem to be checking out that which attacks Obama leaving all else stand......

That makes us democratically bias which I think is not fair to our readers.....

And, how do you know for sure I did not check it out, especially if I posted my first paragraph?

I love you like a brother Vic, but you jump on the Republican party at every turn and have a blind eye out to the democrats outside of the obvious flaws of our congress and senate....

What I do find amusing is how you add to my stories and I have never added to your stories unless you asked me to do that.....

How many old movies have you seen redone years later - just because something has been aired a few years ago, does not mean they cannot be aired again.....

Plus, I do remember when it happened that Obama failed to put his hand over his heart when they national anthem was played - it made all the major media stations along with the fact that he was not wearing the flag pin......

And, that was something the Tea Party did not promote because they were not even formed yet.

Take care my friend.

The blog shouldn't rely on the reader to fact check what's posted. Otherwise we could run rants from the White Supremacist parties, Nazi's and others and just make the blog a laughing stock. You remember a clip showing Obama not holding his hand over his heart; I remember he gave the command to attack and kill Osama bin Laden. But if your point is to tease the reader by promoting an email written by bigots and then hide behind a statement that it's up for grabs whether it's real or not, smacks of piss poor journalism. People who visit this blog should have a confidence that if the piece is worth further research, they know how to Google it. Not do our job which is to present the facts correctly.

Now, now fellas. You should make this YOUR national anthem! Kiss and make up and keep on posting, but my advise would be to stay away from "politics" and limit discussion to "life". Politics is ugly. I get these types of emails (fwds) from my conservative neighbors, always bashing Obama. This was always a red flag, so I would immediately check it out and call them out on it. They would only argue with me, now matter how much it was proved to be false by someone else. So now I don't even open my neighbor's fwds any more. Do us all a favor and ignore this shit be it about Obama or anything to do with politics. It is very disturbing and negative. We have enough negative to deal with in our lives, so let's not pile it on. You have your right to your political beliefs and religious beliefs - just don't shove it in our faces. Most of us would ignore it, so why even put it out there? There are more serious world problems and issues to discuss that don't have to be politicized; plus there are many positive life experiences as well. So I challenge the two of you to each come up with a postive post; declare it a "draw" as to whose was best and move past this incident. Just learn a lesson from it; that staying clear of politics is wise and good for your health as well. (Exception: Generalized poking fun at all politicians as a group is still fair game).
