BOY MAYOR KUCINICH GONE FROM CONGRESS

What a Blow to Anti War Groups
By Victor M Adamus

All eyes were on Super Tuesday last night except mine.  I was more concerned with the new districting rules up in Ohio that left long time Congressman Dennis Kucinich, a one time Presidential candidate, in the dust.  Yes, he’s out and a newbee Marcy Kaptur is in.  She gets to face off for the Congressional seat against Joe the Plummer, remember him?  Sam Wurzelbacher? In November.

In 1977 Kucinich ran and won the seat for Mayor of Cleveland at the young age of 31 prompting many to call him the “Boy Mayor”.  He took the city into bankruptcy, survived a recall, but lost re-election the next time around.  TIME magazine dubbed him “Boy Mayor” just before the recall.

In 2007 he made history by filing Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney.  He claimed Cheney had lied to the U.S. Congress which got the U.S.  into the Iraqi War.

He was one of the first members of Congress to endorse the Obama-Biden ticket in 2008 urging Americans to “wake up” and vote Democratic in the November elections.

Later he teamed up with Ron Paul to debate the War Powers Act on Fox News, something that had never been done before.  But it addressed the merits of military action in wars overseas.

A feisty Representative, no one really knows what his next political role will be.  He could move to another state and run in another Congressional District but that would mean resigning his office before November.  A difficult decision so it may end up taking him out of politics for two years, at least.

I don’t think we’ve heard the last of Dennis Kucinich.  But I will keep an eye on the media and see where he lands.  I know the current Congress needs all the help they can muster and a talent like Dennis will be sorely missed.
