I See the Decision as Abusive
By Victor M AdamusCourt Conservatives Wearing Their Badges of Honor |
The five conservative Supreme Court Justices held to their
ruling in Citizens United and denied the Montana Supreme Court ruling that upheld
limiting corporate donations to those running for office to $5000. It suggests there will never be a flexibility
in the law even though the laws of Montana have been in effect for 100 years to
stop corruption. Copper Companies were
literally buying politicians for their own personal gain back then which most
people are witnessing this year with a nationwide purchase of politicians by
Super PACs. The court will not accept
anything less. A piece of paper is now
recognized as a human or person and is protected under the First Amendment.
Most legal experts who study the Constitution can’t find any
foundation for the ruling. It is
consider in most political circles as part of the Republican platform. It’s not unique that all five justices were appointed
by a conservative president in office.
“Even if I were to accept Citizens United,” Justice Breyer said,
“this court’s legal conclusion should not bar the Montana Supreme Court’s
finding, made on the record before it, that independent expenditures by
corporations did in fact lead to corruption or the appearance of corruption in
Montana. Given the history and political landscape in Montana, that court
concluded that the state had a compelling interest in limiting independent
expenditures by corporations.”
Breyer wrote the dissenting view.
There can’t be anything good coming out of these Super
PACs. The election in November will
either force the electorate to show up in great numbers against the money
corporations and their will to install Corporate Governance on the U.S.
Congress, truly a mission for the people who vote to take back their country or
it all slides to the side of what corporation your representatives work for,
leaving the people totally out in the cold.
It could lead to fascism too.
Another worry is that corporations controlling Congress can make women
second class citizens; do away with Medicare; balance the budget on the
shoulders of the middle class and poor; and change the entitlements for
veterans, issues that could become a reality if corporate backed politicians
win in November.
There’s a lot at stake in the upcoming elections. Voters have to send the tea party packing.
