Why Republicans Have to Cheat to Win

When you think about it, the only reason a Republicans Legislators with a Republican Governor even look at changing the rules on
voting rights is to give their party an edge in upcoming elections. It shows an even stronger view that the people
who make up the Republican Party have little faith their candidate will win in
a fair fight. Not without help
anyway. So in 20 states Democrats,
mostly elderly, minorities but all registered Democrats become a target to find
a way, as difficult as possible, to have them prove they are U.S. citizens even
though historics show in most of their locales, some have voted in the same place for
over 40 years. Now they are considered “non-citizens”
an insult in itself but legal under very flimsy voter fraud numbers taken state
by state.
In Florida the Justice Department has filed a suit alleging
that the state has violated its obligations under Section 8 of the National
Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA).
The Governor Rick Scott, now known as Sheriff Joe, said he
would be suing the Department of Homeland Security for not giving the state the
department’s own citizenship file for Florida in his illegal purge efforts.
The whole crappy process of trying to deny Democrats in 20
states that have invoked these laws, regardless of the Voting Rights Act, are
meant to make it as difficult as possible for Democrats to show up in large
numbers on election day. Florida also
canceled a casual voting week before the election for anyone wanting to vote
early. These included the elderly that
have problems standing in a long line in the hot Florida sun; disabled veterans
in wheel chairs who need a care giver to get to the polls; people on oxygen or
people with disabilities all would be discouraged by not being able to vote
early or by absentee ballot.
Republicans aren’t taking any chances with their unpopular
candidate who to date can only claim 40% of the Republican base and that’s
assuming the entire base turns out to vote.
Republicans also lead in fund raising from billionaire donors where the
Democrats have a million man list of donors who contribute less than $250 each
making it difficult for President Obama to compete in the ad nausea contest that
goes on between September and the day before election day.
It’s cheating, plain and simple, but legal. And that has motivated a grass roots efforts
by Democrats to get as many voters as they can to make the trip to the election
precinct with birth certificate, one with a state seal, and the money to pay
for a photo ID. Once they’ve done this
they are now certified as a citizen of the U.S. for voting purposes even though
the Federal Government has recognized them by their Social Security number all
their working careers. It’s a scam and
made to look like it’s cutting down on voter fraud even though in 8 years
Florida has only reported 13 people who tried to vote without ID i.e. drivers
license or document with their local address like a homestead document.
How long before the U.S. citizenship realizes that the next
Republican Administration will turn this country into a fascist state run by
the extreme right wing evangelicals? I
wonder.
