The Newsroom is a fictional “made for TV” series by HBO that is based upon actual news events.

It stars Jeff Daniels, Sam Waterston (of Law and Order fame), Emily Mortimer, and a group of other young, talented new actors. Jeff Daniels, plays Will McAvoy, a news anchor who has found a safe niche with his cable show, "News Night", but his life is stirred up when he is forced to work with a new team of colleagues and a former girl friend, MacKenzie McHale ( played by Emily Mortimer) that was arranged by his boss Charlie Skinner, President of the news division (played by Sam Waterston).

The Newsroom’s appeal for the viewer is that Will says on the air what mainstream media would like to say but cannot or will not.
