Pelosi said Boehner should get past the “stale, old, boring” debate over raising taxes on the wealthiest 2 percent of taxpayers.
Boehner should be able to figure out how to pass legislation that does not put members of the GOP caucus at risk while still meeting Obama’s requirement for raising tax rates, Pelosi said.
The House could immediately pass the Senate version of middle-class tax-cut legislation by more than a two-thirds margin, according to Pelosi.
Or, Boehner could structure several votes on the legislation that would allow passage of middle-class tax relief, but still let some GOP lawmakers register their objections.
“I do know there’s a way to bring a bill to the floor that accommodates the needs of the American people, that protects the Republicans who don’t want to vote for it, but that gets the job done for the American people,” she said.
