Alex Hutchins, circa 2011 |
Thank you!!!
In September 2011, my lifelong (since 3rd grade) friend, Vic Adamus (now deceased) and I started this Blog as a way of releasing our emotions, feeling, fears, concerns, and limitations as we both struggled with the aging process and our similar health issues of heart disease and cancer. When Vic died a few months ago due to complications with colon cancer treatments, I decided to continue this blog as long as, YOU, the reader(s) wanted me to through your continued support and participation. I doubted my ability to author this blog on my own after playing off the writings of my friend because we were a good team as we covered each other and came up with new ideas of improvement.
I am both flattered and amazed that this blog has continued to increase in readership, receiving 100-200 hits a day for a grand total of almost 40,000 since 2011 and over 10,000 repeats from the US alone and 131 flags from the rest of the world as I have tried to bring in stories from all over the globe not just here in the US.
As I continue to come to terms with my ongoing aging process, my battle with heart disease and Lymphoma, I have recently discovered I had contracted another cancer, referred to as: Acral Lentiginous Melanoma just below the toes on my left foot. In fact, I just had a large chunk of the bottom of my foot removed a couple of days ago, and I am now waiting on the results from pathology to see if the cancer has spread. It is widely believed by my Oncologists that the aggressive treatment that I endured for Lymphoma opened the door for this to take root.
Not only is this type of melanoma rare (7%) but 98% of the time, it is found in Asians and Africans, so I guess that makes me somewhat unique.
However, I have made the decision to continue posting articles on this blog on a daily basis even if I have to write them several days in advance and I would ask for your patience from time-to-time as I drift away from the timely and current. And, for those of you who are making comments, I apologize that I do not always have the time to respond and/or to thank you since I am also a Visiting Instructor at a local small 4 year college, teaching in the Business Department both Undergraduate and Graduate class on a full time basis, feeling very blessed that I am working.
So, if you would like to contact me directly, please do so at ahutchins@gmail.com since I check that email several times a day and will take the time to respond. I would also encourage you to send me feedback so that I can continuously improve this blog or if you have any suggestions and/or links to possible stories.
Again, thank you all and take care,
Alex Hutchins
