Memorial Day last week officially opened up summer
and summer vacations and our family has been going to Myrtle Beach, SC
for the last 20 years (Myrtle Beach is
famous for selling MR Ducks T-shirts); however,
before that my favorite vacation spot was the Outer Banks of NC
that I was first exposed to as a young
boy living in VA and my parents would take us down to Nags Head every summer
for 2 weeks.
And while there are
hundreds no thousands of beaches scattered all across these United States and
you no doubt have your favorite, these 2 beaches are my favorites. One of the reasons why we stopped going to
Nags Head was because my wife and I got caught in an infamous “rip tide”
and were brought to shore only after we latched onto the float of a teenager
yelling:
“We Need Some Help!”
And yes again… at 50 years old, I still loved to “body surf.” This year, at age 65/66, I will continue my tradition of body surfing that nowadays only lasts for about 30 minutes at a time.
MR Ducks reminds of Ducks Unlimited and that organization reminds me of the NRA which reminds me of the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution and our recent battle over gun control. I served my country in the military and was around weapons for several years and I am very much in favor of a well-regulated militia to protect our homeland against foreign incursions but does this Amendment extend out beyond the militia and to firearms our Founding Fathers never envisioned would ever be invented or manufactured in mass quantities as they are today.
However, it is also interesting to note that while we are adamantly against TERRORISM in the 21st Century, our Founding Fathers and the Patriots who rallied to their cause, acted like and performed terrorist activities in order to defeat a far superior army.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, reminds me of the fact that we are FREE to vacation anywhere we damn well please (and can afford) within the boundaries of the continental United States, even though we may not always be welcome in some places outside the US. It is to those places, I probably would not want to go because the body surfing is lousy and there are no MR Ducks T-shirts.
