Abigail Fisher - denied admissions to University of Texas... |
Programs used by university admissions offices nationwide hung in the balance as the court took up the case of Fisher v. University of Texas, where Abigail Fisher, a 22-year-old Texan, claims she was denied admission to the school's flagship campus in Austin because she was white.
Several liberal justices implied that a new ruling from the high court changing the rules laid down in a 2003 University of Michigan case would create havoc not only for admissions offices but for district courts across the country charged with interpreting the law.
"I hope the court realizes that a student's race and ethnicity should not be considered" in admissions, Abigail Fisher stated outside the courthouse.
How does a country maintain a balance of equality without hurting one of the sides in question? And, should that be the responsibility of government or the responsibility of the individual?
We were endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights and among those are:
Life
Liberty and the
Pursuit of happiness
Nothing was mentioned about race, gender, ethnicity, etc. Yet, we feel that somehow a level playing field needs to be made available and in so doing we have created another unlevel playing field.
The demographics in this country are changing with the birth rate creating the following statistics among largest growing groups in America:
- Hispanics
- Asians
- Blacks
- Caucasians
So, will the Caucasians one day petition THE COURT to somehow balance out the fact one group of people decided to have less babies?
Will the Hispanics and Asians who will no doubt be sitting on the court be willing to listen?
It is time for us to understand that we are one people who are Americans and there is nothing more or nothing less that needs to be clarified in terms of beliefs or color or whether we are liberal or conservative, especially since we all have the same Creator or is that the next door to be opened?
