I am reminded of what my Graduate School Economic Professor, Dr. Peter Peacock (no kidding) told me after class one weekend...
"There were three PH. D.'s ship-wrecked on an island in the South Pacific: a mathematician, a physicist, and an economist. The island was very, very small with only 1 palm tree standing in the middle of the island. One day, a can (unmarked) of something washed up on the shore. Needless to say, the 3 doctors were elated and immediately decided to solve their next problem of how to open the can. So, the mathematician went to one side of the island and with his finger, started writing equations in the sand. The physicist went to the other side of the island and with his finger, started writing equations in the sand. A few hours later, the two sand writers noticed the Economist sitting under the shade of the palm tree with his hands clasp behind his head, smiling. The 2 sand writers approached the palm tree and angrily ask the Economist why he was not working to solve the problem. The Economist proudly said, "because I have already reached a solution., and said: all we have to do is assume that we have a can opener.'"
