50 million strong and counting

These young whippersnappers up in the City of New York can protest all they want as far as I am concerned because this old "bag of wind" will join forces with 50,000,000 other senior citizens to make sure that we only vote for those politicians who WILL NOT cut back our Social Security benefits or health care payments.  I am speaking of AARP.    Lobbyist can influence with meals, junkets, and women all they want, but politicians pay more attention to those who they know are going to vote than those who make financial contributions.

Living in the Republic of the United States has one distinct advantage over other parts of the world and that is our ability to unite in a non-violent way and exercise our right to vote.  Heretofore, voter turnout was low and politicians counted on a substantial amount of voting public staying at home.  Since social security is on the chopping block, I would have a tendency to think that us baby boomers are going to be there in the front of the line nowadays.  It is nothing personal, it's just business.

Some of us no longer have jet black long hair that we brade into a ponytail, nor do we do anything with grass other than mow it, nor do we need to wear our tie-dyed clothes but I can darn well tell you this, when it comes times to pull the lever, we are going to make damn sure that we get all of our benefits.  And, to top it off, we learned from the best, our MOTHERS.  One of the most powerful boycotts in this nation's history was conducted by the housewives of this nation (our mothers) back in the 50's when they organized a nationwide boycott of beef with only postcards and telephones with party lines.  Due to their combined efforts, the mighty beef industry "blinked" and lowered their prices.

United we stand and divided we fall is an absolutely wonderful truism.

We will exercise our right to vote, those of us who are not amongst the estimated 500,000 who have just been disenfranchised by recent state and local legislations, making it more difficult for some to do so. the politicians saw it coming and have done what they can, and most likely will do more, to water down that 50 million number!
