Americas United

With this ring, I thee wed...
Once upon a time when I was teaching macro-economics to students at ITT Technical Institute in Knoxville, TN.  I had develop an Americas United scenario that the students had to use when presenting the economics of their country of choice to the rest of the class.  While Americas United was somewhat of a "tongue-in-cheek" take-off on the European Union, it is an interesting concept, that I believe, Americans should seriously considered.  I am changing the names in this scenario to protect the guilty.

First and foremost, I chose Americas United because AU is the chemical symbol for gold which has also always been synonymous with wealth.  My next step was to combine the North and South American continents, including Central America and Mexico into ONE united entity.  This entity would stop buying products from the rest of the world.  Alaska and the Caribbean would be OK, but I am not sure if Hawaii would be able to fall under our umbrella, but the islands, for the purposes of the scenario were left dangling in the Pacific.  Once we stopped purchasing from the rest of the world, the entity would need to anticipate an aggressive posture from the rest of the world; therefore, our two largest fleets would be permanently stationed up and down the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.  Our Submarines would patrol the waters between Alaska and Russia.

Our prisons would be emptied and the inmates sent to either the North or South poles to serve out the rest of their sentences and would be given the means to survive and grow crops under steel domes.  Future inmates would be transported to either location by the Coast Guard.  Our war on drugs, especially with the Colombian Drug Cartel, would be to nationalize those drugs and utilizing our Petroleum Tankers, ship all those drugs to the rest of the world, selling our inventory at a discount; well, at least at first.

"Rods from God" from Reagan's Star Wars concept, are titanium rods that when dropped from outer space pick up velocity that when finally impacting earth, have the devastation capability greater than the atomic bomb dropped on Japan.  Well, my idea would be to have these "rods from God" platforms strategically placed in the sky and targeted towards:  Europe, Russia, China, Japan, Middle Eastern countries, Africa, and other places that we determine to be appropriate for our well being and survival.

South America would provide adequate room for expansion both with family dwellings and businesses that would include new technologies.  It would also provide more than enough room to build retirement communities in warm environments for our ever-growing retirement population.  Colleges and Universities could be built that would provide jobs as well as the infrastructure of roads and utilities. The rain forests would provide lush accommodations for tourists but only from our AU communities.

I love this imagination. It is this kind of thinking that true visions come from. Are you implying that this "AU" union would then have one currency as well, perhaps AU? This is what Michelle Bachmann has told her supporters, that the U.S. dollar would be no more and that we would go to a "world currency". All one has to do is look at the Euro and suddenly that idea sort of collapses. Sorry Ms. B. but when you have a commont currency you have to have a common government to manage it. However your AU community just might. I am all for moving to the warm climes of South America (with millions of others? Hmmmm) as long as it can be done without destroying the enviornment in doing so. We humans are good at that. Glad you included the schools, but you won't need the roads 'cause we won't have gas guzzling SUV's and Mac Trucks. Technology will get us over that mind set.

Terry, I am suggesting that we become a country of isolation from the rest of the world, except those countries that are in the AU. We can be self-sustaining and the rest of the world is only successful for the most part, because of all our imports from their countries... If we stop, they may not be able to survive...

If we stop, they WON'T be able to survive. The world has long been dependent upon us to buy their goods. We have (had) a lot of power.
