I'm not sure Herman Cain really did get "The Last Word" on Laurence O'Donnell's show last night. I was frankly embarrassed for him. Laurence exposed him for not being apart of the Freedom movement like most of his black college friends did; dodged the draft from Vietnam by working in a Navy factory; and later getting a lottery number that wasn't picked. O'Donnell touted him for not joining the Armed Forces like Senator Kerry of Massachusetts did and countless others. Cain was on the show to push his book: This is Herman Cain! My Journey to the White House.
I think the most blatant thing said by Cain came in an earlier interview when he was asked about the jobless crowd marching on Wall Street. Cain said they can only blame themselves for not being employed. That heartless remark was brought up as O'Donnell asked if he wanted to retract the statement. Apparently not, as he went on to say he came on the show the talk about his 999 tax theory which also got batted around as not coming close to what we have now in terms of a government tax revenue.

Vic,
Let me comment here but not necessarily in defense of Cain, but about some of those who are unemployed. First of all, let me agree that there is a huge lack of sensitivity here and would not want that anywhere near the White House. But, let me also say that to some degree his observation is partially correct. There are jobs available in this country that Americans refused to accept because the perception is it is "beneath" them. When I was unemployed with a Masters Degree, I was willing to work a CSR for Talbots, accepting orders over the phone for female clothes making $8/hour. Since $8/hour would not come close to paying my bills, I also worked as a CSR for Whirlpool factory service for $9/hour and as a CSR for Bellsouth troubleshooting their "fast access" program for $10/hour. I was also willing to rake leaves, wash cars, clean houses, unload trucks, and count inventory all of which paid $8/hour. To make this long story short, I worked 3 jobs, 7 days a week, to receive almost all of the money I needed, and still had to cut back on some expenses which included selling an antique car. So, while it was humiliating for me to work like this, is was something I felt like I had to do.
The second point I would like to make is that Americans need to be willing to return to College and study the math and sciences which includes courses like Statistics and Quantitative Math with Regression Analysis because there are jobs out there for those skills. There were plenty of maids and janitors who worked long hours to send their children to College and perhaps we need to rethink our "mind set," and be willing to do something, even if that something is not what we want to do... THAT moron will probably get the nomination. Why? Because he is black!
Idiots on Faux news says that when elected he would be our "first" black president, because the current one isn't black enough to be called that. Jeeze, now he's not black enough. What else will they come up with? I don't care what color our next president is (but sort of having some hope it will be a woman). He/she can be green for all I care, as long as the next one carries a whip and gets this country under control starting with WDC on the take and the unethical corporate/big money users.
