Our American Christian Churches Should Do More

God Calls Us To Show Mercy and Compassion to Our Fellow Man

Deuteronomy 14:28-29
At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year's produce and store it in your towns, so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the aliens, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
Deuteronomy 15:7, 11
If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.
Leviticus 23:22
When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.

Hartford Institute estimates there are roughly 335,000 religious congregations in the United States.  Of those, about 300,000 are Protestant and other Christian churches, and 22,000 are Catholic and Orthodox churches.  Approximately 56 million worshippers attend Church Services weekly.

What If:
Each weekly Church attendee pledged $10/ month or $120/year to help the needy and poor in this country – we would have $6,720,000,000 to help the needy and poor each year…  that's BILLIONS folks…  and, no drain on the Federal Government, nor would it drain the budgets of our Churches… or the pocketbooks of the attendees.  It is a win/win scenario.

WHY should that be left up to churches and attendees? We have a government that reaps way more money from us via taxes. I trust more in my government to provide programs I may need, than I do church attendees.
