Our words hurt

It started on American Idol and then spread to Dancing with the Stars, but never has ugly criticism been used to humiliate an individual so badly than it was used on Dancing with the Stars the other night when Chaz Bono was eliminated from the competition. In the few shows that I watched where Chaz and his partner were dancing, it was obvious, at least to me that Chaz and his partner, Jennifer Elia, should have been eliminated long before, but that is not the point.  I am dismayed at the length shows will digress down to in order to achieve ratings and even more dismayed by the number of Americans that think this is funny or tacitly approve.

What was said to Chaz was third grade playground humor that adults should have outgrown long ago.  I do not have to be for or against a particular lifestyle to stand up for someone’s human rights.  These comments were nothing more than “hate” comments pure and simple.  No doubt, the author of these comments is probably now saying, I was just joking or simply having a little bit of fun, but it should not have been done at the expense of another.

Why are Americans so cruel to each other and why do other Americans allow it to happen?

Hmmmmmmm sorry I missed that. I think Chaz was very brave for putting himself out in such a public venue. I remember him being a darling little girl and imagine many others do as well
