For those of us who are familiar with advertising, we advertise the intangible with tangible results and the tangible with intangible results; of course, this may seem simply intuitive to those of us who do not know anything about advertising.
For those of us who are familiar with economics, we know that the more something is demanded the higher the price rises unless the quantity of what is being demanded is increased, then the price declines; of course for some, this is counter-intuitive because if something is less in demand, prices are also likely to increase to compensate for the low demand.
For those of us who are familiar with education, we know that our colleges and universities primary purpose is enable students to continue their intellectual pursuits which may or may not enable them to find employment; of course for many of us, we see a college degree as the primary way of opening up a door for employment.
Whether it is advertising, economics, or education, we perceive the world around us as having been made available for us to fulfill our wants and needs. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry, or Pulitzer Prize winner author, or Nobel Prize winning recipient has a view as to how the world around us should operate because of some linear projection that is presupposed to be directly related to the forward movement of time, evidenced by the aging process. When in fact what we have is merely a group of opinionated people attempting to persuade those without an opinion to think like they think; regardless of whether or not those opinions make sense; however, there is still yet another group who read opinions to help strengthen their own persuading opinion while completely ignoring any and all opposing views.
Here is an interesting opinion: if the majority rules in this country which to me means, that once the debating is over and the votes are cast and a decision made, then the rest of us should be following the consensus; yet, that is exactly diametrically opposed to what actually happens which is: those that lose start to immediately tear down those that won; so, what was the point of having the argument in the first place?
Is it our destiny to have a group of people in this country or in the rest of the world who will never agree and never come to terms with those disagreements from the standpoint of following the majority? And, if we know that from the “getgo,” what was the point of starting the argument other than being hopeful that it might change this time which is statistically doubtful.
So, what is going beyond the ordinary? The reader should not simply believe the author of an article simply because they are an expert today, nor should they simply believe a non-expert because the logic makes sense. Going beyond the ordinary is constantly challenging one’s own beliefs, preconceived ideas, and moralistic values and ascertain by whatever means are available are my opinions still valid and if not why not; otherwise, there will be writers who sole purpose will be to persuade to their points-of-view.
