A World Gone Missing
by Alex Hutchins
We are beyond the
boarders of the USA
beyond the boarders of
other countries as well;
We are beyond political and
religious ideologies, just
hopeful, caring parents
who simply want togive
the best future to our
children that we can.
We have opened the door for another year and mourn the loss of the previous one no matter how tragic or comedic it may have been; it was something tangible to which we clung and invested all our hopes and fears and gratifications.
And, now we stand in the doorway, apprehensive yet anxious with anticipation as to how we would like it to unfold. Yet, we all know certain activities will continue and with trepidations, we see a continuance of: violence, poverty, power, and greed
BUT, few of us realize the number of children who have cancer today and many of them do not live with us in the USA.
As a parent this bothers me.
As a cancer patient, this bothers me.
As a humanitarian, this bothers me.
We spend millions in whatever currency you want to imagine on political elections, investments, education, vacations, clothes, and clothes; yet, around the world, children are dying and some surviving with cancer. How selfish this should make the rest of us feel.
For years, I have been exposed to images of global poverty and how $5/day can give several children the nutrition that the need; but, never have I seen television commercials that pertain to children with cancer.
If you are concerned about this growing issue of children who have cancer, there are some links below for your convenience.
