Thomas Jefferson was

1. liberal in his thinking
2. a secular humanis
3. favored minimal government intrusion
4. believed a strong Federal Government was a threat to individual liberties
5. favored States rights
6. favored a strict interpretation (not broad) of the Constitution

During his lifetime, Jefferson considered himself an anti-Federalist, yet his beliefs are shared today by all 3 parties:  Democrats, Republican, as well as Libertarians.

A Rebuttal to an anti-Republican Bias

My parents were Democrats and raised me and my siblings as Democrats and I voted the Democratic ticket for most of my adult life; however recently, I find myself in a similar position to that of Jefferson, in that, I have a footprint in all 3 parties.  For instance, equality in my earlier years was a “no brainer” for me but I grow older, I realize that is a naïve attitude when thinking along a broad spectrum but no so when thinking in specific instances, such as hiring the right person for the right job.

It is not just the equality issue that is troublesome for me, the Democrats state that they have a simple vision; yet when one reads the vision below, it seems vague and obscure, at least that’s my opinion.

"Our vision is simple. We want an America that gives all Americans the chance to live out their dreams and achieve their God-given potential. We want an America that is still the world's strongest force for peace and freedom. And we want an America that is coming together around our enduring values, instead of drifting apart."

The Democrats believe in the equality of women from the standpoint of having the right to choose whether or not they should have an abortion.  And, while this may be contrary to the religious views of some, I share the same thoughts that all of us, not just women, should have the right to choose what to do to their bodies.  But, should the Government pay for that right?  And, if the Government did pay for that service to all, would it not increase the size of the Government?

Because we believe in the privacy and equality of women, we stand proudly for a woman’s right to choose, consistent with Roe v. Wade, and regardless of her ability to pay. We stand firmly against Republican efforts to undermine that right. At the same time, we strongly support family planning and adoption incentives. Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare. Yet, it seems that even the Democrats cannot agree on this abortion issue.  Paul Waldman in his article entitled Democrats' Gay-Marriage Problem, August 9, 2010, wrote:  “The electorate is increasingly pro-marriage equality.  Democrats should stop straddling the issue . . .  Nevertheless, in the meantime, Democrats have their own distinct gay-marriage problem. It isn't that they're too pro-gay -- it's that the position most Democratic politicians have taken for the last few years has become untenable. It's been undone by the rapidly changing legal and legislative landscape and the internal contradictions extended debate on this subject has clarified.”

Many opinions hold that the Democrats spend more than the Republicans and “…The Democrats can say whatever they want about the deficit they inherited from President George W. Bush; by the time Obama is finished his first term in office, the debt burden on the American public would be double what it was under president Bush.”  To read entire article, click here.

Many of us admire and respect President Obama, especially since this has been a difficult term and throughtout all the issues, he has maintained his dignity and that of the office.  But, be that as it may, President Obama is a Democrat and as the figurehead of the party must maintain and promote all the beliefs of the Democratic Party.

By understanding the Democrats, we can conclude that the Republicans are the opposite and while the Republican candidates for the 2012 election are jockeying for position and acceptance, whoever is selected will be the spokesperson for the Republican Party and their beliefs.

So, let me be perfectly clear here, the Democrats do not want us to bear arms which should particularly upset the women in this nation as the number of female gun owners in the US is increasing.

But, this is just my opinion and you must form your own.
