Milestone: A Dangerous Crossroad

Our First Bankers

After the death of Christ, his followers, known as Christians needed protection from the Romans
as they journeyed in and around the lands surrounding Jerusalem.  These protectors of traveling Christians later became known as “warrior monks,” who later became known as “Knights of the Temple of Jerusalem,” who were later known as “Knights Templar” when officially formed by King Baldwin II of Jerusalem in 1118 A.D.

Origin of Friday the 13th

On Friday the 13th, in October 1307 when Jacques de Molay, the Grand Master of the Knights Templar, and 60 of his senior knights were arrested in Paris. This day is remembered in history - it is the reason Friday 13th is deemed to be unlucky.  The Medieval order of the Knights Templar was dissolved in 1312 by the Council of Vienne.  When a man joined the Knights Templar he took an oath of poverty and his wealth and lands were donated to the Knights Templar order. Donations of money and land were also given to the Knights Templar order by nobles and Kings.

Our First Bank Checks

The Templars implemented the earliest system of banking in the world, using "cheques", where a person could deposit money in one Templar facility and be issued a cheque which could be withdraw far away at another Templar location. They were perhaps the most powerful financial organization on earth during the middle ages.

Present Day Bankers

Isn’t it odd how hundreds of years later, many of us today (in 2012) would like to again arrest the bastard bankers” like they were in 1307 but perhaps offer them a different fate than being burned at the stake – well, some of us maybe.

I have come to realize after 3 score and 5 years that my opinions are like ass holes (bankers, for example, if you will) everybody has one.  And, while my opinion has been tempered by age, it is still scary nonetheless.

A Dangerous Crossroad

America has reached a dangerous crossroad because technology is out-pacing economic growth and an informed public is realizing that wealth is more discriminatory than color or demographic stratifications.

A homeless family somewhere in US

As the rest of the world grows and continues to erode America’s middle class separating more and more families from financial opportunities, controlled anger will erupt like a volcano and hit the wealthy like a touched-down tornado; and, while some intellectuals will simply blow-off my mixed metaphors, others will finally realize that a vast number of Americans are PISSED OFF at our leaders, our CEO’s, our POLITICIANS, and our Bankers.

Life of Dispair and Futility

And, my cocky wealthy friends, a violent revolt will take place, the likes of which you have never seen before.  And, since you have never been there, you have no idea what it is like to live when you have nothing left to lose.  This type of resolve has only happened one time before in America’s history and the result was we won our independence from Great Brittan; and, we beat them because we fought like TERRORISTS who had nothing to lose.

What price are we willing
to pay for their greed?
