Richard Dawson, the long-time host of Family Feud has gone to that great intermission in the sky. He was 79 and the cause of death was our great foe, cancer.
Probably best known for hosting Family Feud, Dawson was also one of the bright young things in the strange Nazi POW camp comedy, Hogan’s Heroes.
Less you think of him as some sort of smarmy and smug cringe-inducing host, a poor-mans seemingly drunk Richard Burton or Peter Lawford-style gigolo kissing all the ladies, he was sublimely funny and very aware that his personae was a role. He even parodied himself in The Running Man, and reportedly thought Bill Murray’s version of a smarmy game show host was hysterical.
