An
Opinion
by Alex Hutchins
It
never ceases to amaze me how Americans, a majority of which claim to be
Christians, think deceiving is or perceive that it is, the height of
accomplishment when played out on other Americans.
What
brought this idea to my attention?
Well,
this concept never really leaves me because I am reminded everyday by someone,
but what prompted this particular tirade was a recent trip to Myrtle Beach, SC
this summer. My wife and I rented a
condo from an owner instead of the resort and we were not told it was on the
first floor until after the agreement was finalized.
And,
when we were finally informed of the location, it was not until we arrived at
our destination that we realized our location was where all the children’s
pools were. While this would have been
perfect 30 years ago, we prefer a little less noise now.
But,
I suppose that if we were told this from the “getgo,” we probably would have
not rented.
Our
fully stocked kitchen, contains only about 3-5% of what we have at home, maybe
less with no drinking glasses, no bowls, no cooking utensils other than wooden
soup spoons, only 1 frying pan, no containers for juice, and a miniature coffee
pot – however, it does have a universal filter.
We
were promised a $50 gift card as a thank you which we never received and our queen
size bed turned out to be 2 doubles instead.
Two people, actually I should say adults, cannot fit into the bathroom
at the same time and the sink, commode, and shower are lined up in tandem.
The
view of the ocean which is what got our surfing attention in the first place
but it is non-existent except for a bird only balcony just off the one and only
bedroom which is hardly a master.
No
doubt, we are not the first nor will we be the last to be sucked in for a
week’s rental but it really does amaze how well we treat each other just to
make a buck.
