Narrow Mindedness

There is a very simple (as one might expect) definition for narrow mindedness, which is:

not willing to accept opinions, beliefs, or behaviors that are unusual or different from your own

It can also mean:

having or showing a prejudiced mind, as persons or opinions; biased.

not receptive to new ideas; having a closed mind.

So, what does prejudice mean?

preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.

harm or injury that results or may result from some action or judgment.

Why am I writing about this?

Because this concept of narrow mindedness exists in ALL ITS GLORY right here, right now... and yet, we all claim to be open and accepting of each other and of each others opinions.

Why do I feel this way?

I guess because I am an American and in America we have certain rights and freedoms that apparently do not exist for some reason in other countries, although, all these other countries willing admit that mankind was created equally... at least, that is what their religions and philosophies write about.

But, that is not really true is it... because, if it were, we would not have narrow mindedness and we do have it.

In fact, I am so American that I was in the military during the Vietnam Era Conflict (as the Government refers to it) for the sole purpose of protect democracy and freedom all over the world not just in America. And, with that freedom comes the individual right for others to say or write things that I do not particularly like, but I would protect their right to say or write anything they wanted to in a heartbeat... because that is exactly what Freedom of Speech means.

Let's suppose that I am a collector of nudes... so, what does that mean to you? That I collect nude bodies for some nefarious reason or purpose? Or, does that mean you need to seek out more clarification and when you do, you understand quite clearly that I collect paintings, photographs, prints, and sculptures of both female and male nudes.

So, if you have a business that is trying to sell that kind of stuff than as part of your marketing and advertising budget and approach, you would or could reasonably assume that SOCIAL MEDIA might be an option for you.

And, since LinkedIn is a business social media of sorts, then this forum might be a good place to post photos of a variety of the items that you have for sell.

And, it might be also be a good marketing approach to post nudes in general so as to generate an interest which could over time lead to more purchases and increased revenues.

BUT,

someone living in another country who was raised with narrow minded views objects to what you are doing and how you conduct your business affairs and wants you to stop doing that here on this forum because it offends him and his beliefs.

Now, he is not really opposed to your making a living like that but just does not want you to do it here for some reason.... I guess because he has to look at it...

Well... could HE just stop looking at that which offends him?

Is not that just as easy?
Why should you change and not him?

However,

there is more to this story than just this little disagreement as there always is or seems to be.

So,

let me start from the beginning...

A few days ago, there was a posting of a nude female laying on a beach with here butt and a partial breast showing. To be quite honest, I cannot remember if this was a painting or an actual photograph, but what I did notice was that it was well done and made an initial comment to that effect. Several days past and that image kept coming back around because others were making comments on that image both males and female and all comments were positive in nature.

After several days, I decided when that image came back around to share the image but add the line that equal time should be given to males... as a somewhat tongue-in-cheek comment but also because I have seen comments that if pics of women are being posted then pics of males should be posted as well.

Well, a day after I shared this photo, I receive comments as to how vulgar I am being and to stop immediately doing this kind of stuff.

So, why are negative comments being made when a males shares this type of photo and positive comments made when a female shares or actually posts this kind of photo?

And, why do we tolerate the narrow mindedness of these types of people... as, it is not THEIR SOCIAL MEDIA but OUR SOCIAL MEDIA is it not?

And, if it is truly our social media... why do we listen only to them? Is it because I am an American and the world does not really care about Americans right now? And if that is the case, why should a 67 year old American be held accountable for what its Government and military does to the rest of the world?

Ya know... I kinda like all the freedoms that I have and actually feel a little sorry for you and all the freedoms that you do not have... but, is not that your choice? Because, I know that it is not my choice if you decide to live in a country without choice and freedoms. And, I also know that many people once they have reached adulthood, have made the decision to leave those countries behind in favor of living in a country that does value freedoms... and, it is precisely this reason... immigration to America, that has and will continue to make America great... so, I no longer feel sorry for you if you don't have freedoms...

But,

don't try to take mine away from me.
