What is Blind Faith and what does it
mean to possess Blind Faith?
Blind Faith was an English blues
rock band, composed of Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, Steve Winwood, and
Ric Grech. The band, which was one of the first "super-groups",
released their only album, Blind Faith, in August 1969. They were
stylistically similar to the bands in which Winwood, Baker, and
Clapton had most recently participated, Traffic and Cream. They
helped to pioneer the genre of blues/rock fusion.
Blind
Faith is the self-titled and only studio album by the English
supergroup Blind Faith, originally released in 1969 on Polydor
Records in the United Kingdom and Europe and on Atlantic Records in
the United States. It topped the album charts in the UK and Canada as
well as the Billboard 200, even peaking at #40 on the Billboard Soul
Albums chart, an impressive feat for an English rock quartet. It has
been certified platinum by the RIAA.[3] In addition, Rolling Stone
published three reviews of the album in their 6 September 1969 issue,
which were written by Ed Leimbacher, Lester Bangs, and John
Morthland.
While that is not the answer I was
seeking, it did take me down memory lane temporarily... and as I
recall losing all sights of understanding and awareness... I
realize there were no drugs in my body and had not been any drugs in
my body since I was 25 over 40 years ago... so, what was I acting
this way?
My first search for Blind Faith had
obviously triggered this memory and thank goodness I was able to pull
myself out of it quickly...
The
phrase “blind faith” means different things to different people,
and, sadly, many people use it as a negative, disparaging term to
describe anyone who believes in God. A dictionary definition of blind
faith is “belief without true understanding, perception, or
discrimination.”
Ah... there it is!!! But, I wonder how many of us
truly have it? But first, there is this question: Does God
expect us to have blind faith?
A dictionary definition (above) of
blind faith is “belief without true understanding,
perception, or discrimination.”
Is this the kind of faith God desires
us to have?
Is the kind of faith God gives us... a
blind faith?
Is our faith really to be blind,
without true understanding?
See (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Throughout Scripture we find that
reason, wisdom, and logic are lifted up as good traits. For example,
Proverbs 3:13 says we are blessed when we find knowledge and
understanding. Hebrews 5:12-14 reproves teachers for not
learning and growing in understanding. Paul commends the church at
Berea because they searched the Scriptures daily to see if what Paul
said was true (Acts 17:11). In many places throughout Acts the
apostle Paul was said to “reason” with the lost, attempting to
prove to them the truth of his words. James 1:5 even tells us
to ask God for wisdom, which He gives “generously to all without
finding fault.” Source:
So many of us have been told not to
question what the Bible says or what is said in Churches throughout
the United States by Ministers, Pastors, and Priests, that we should
accept it as it is and be thankful that it was given to us out of
GRACE...
But, I disagree with this philosophy
and have little respect for those who simply expect me to have blind
faith... as if they presuppose that I am not capable of
understanding such a difficult concept as that of faith.
And so, we have our Churches to tell us
what to believe...
We also have our governments telling us
how to live...
We also have our law enforcement
telling us how to behave in public...
We have our courts punishing us when we
have transgressed...
I guess what we can do these days is
- Ingest
- Defecate
- Fornicate
- Work
- Die
There is another concept, other than
religion, to which we take a blind eye (or are supposed to) and that
is JUSTICE... and, we all know how that shit is going...
especially those of us who are living in the African American
communities throughout the US.
Is JUSTICE really blind or is she just
squinting her eyes and simply appears to be blind because the image
was invented on a sunny day? Obviously, that is absurd but I just
had to write it.
JUSTICE is supposed to be blind because
JUSTICE theoretically does not care about wealth, power, position,
race, gender, fame, or notoriety unless you are a foreign dignitary
and have Diplomatic Immunity Status.
And then there is public justice and
private justice which is to say that public justice can be located
inside and around our judicial system but private justice (and I am
not speaking of vigilantes) is what we can expect to find inside
companies that is typically administered by the Human Resources
Departments who have no legal training at all or very little at best.
So, we have this female employee who
flirts with her male boss (for whatever reason or motivation) and
this female (excuse the expression) is built like a brick shit house
with a face to go with it, and the male boss instantly but
reluctantly falls prey to her advances and they exchange all sorts of
“heated and erotically suggestive” emails... However, since
they are both married, she convinces him that both of them should
delete all correspondence...
He does this religiously (no pun
intended) but she does not but he does not know that she has not.
And so one day, she gets pissed at him for some reason and cries out
to HR that she has been sexually harassed and shares all the emails
as proof... When he is confronted by HR and says this was mutually
agreeable, he has no evidence to support his claim and he is
terminated and she gets a promotion on the way to his former job.
Granted... it was not too smart on his
part but if we look at her part in all of this, it certainly seems to
be premeditated at the very least.
But, the point to all of this is that
Faith and/or Justice is never blind nor am I sure that it should be
blind because being blind is not reflective of life itself.
A few years ago, I had the sad
opportunity of traveling to Florida to sit in the audience and
observe the trial of a man who while under the influence of alcohol
killed 3 American soldiers who were returning home themselves from a
night of drinking but were turning into their apartment complex at 4
miles per hours and were hit by this man's car which was estimated to
be exceeding 80 MPH and there was absolutely no indication of the
brakes being applied... the soldier's car was pushed the length of 2
football fields until it smashed into a telephone pole.
Before the trial began, the Prosecutor
informed me and those with whom I was with that the jury pool in this
area was comprised only of those who had been convicted of a previous
crime...
I found this amazing and still do...
in all the movies and television shows about lawyers and the
courtroom, this type of problem has not ever been alluded to of which
I am aware... and these shows like to address current themes to
increase ratings.
In other words and because there is so
much crime everywhere in America that being tried by a jury of our
peer means that most of them 80% or higher in some cases have also
broken the law.
No way in hell can JUSTICE be blind...
and, maybe like FAITH it is not supposed to...
