The Neighbor's Cat

Over the course of the last 10 years, my wife and I had added several refurbishments to our home in East Tennessee, many of which have nothing to do with improving the resell value of our home but were made nonetheless to improve our retirement years since we both were painfully aware that our retirement income was going to be substantially less each month that our working monthly income.

Some of these improvements were made outside and included an above ground pool, circular in appearance, that was completely surrounded by a wooden deck that, in essence, connected the pool to the side of the house in back.

The deck itself was expanded a couple of times when we wanted to add a gazebo big enough for 4 chairs and a hot tub and the last time to expand the area that had been set aside for grilling and for sun bathing.

Inside our split level home, refurbishing took place as well in our kitchen where we took down a wall so that the areas of the kitchen, living room, and dining room were all one large room and we renovated both bathrooms as well adding lots of tile to the wall and floor and making them handicap accessible. In the lower lever of the house, we finished the unfinished portion of the basement into another bedroom that could also be used as an office space along with a pretty good size bathroom that would be used to take showers after working outside.

It was a slow process but since we are both retired now and we spend a majority of our time outside nowadays, it was well worth the investment; although, I doubt very seriously that this house would ever be sold, some of these renovations were performed to improve the value of the home according to what some real estates friends of ours had told us.

And now that our first full day of retirement is about over and the sun is beginning to set behind the mountains in front of us, I can stand here, on the edge of my deck, with my freshly made Vanilla Cappuccino and admire the red/orange and blue sky for as long as I want to. My wife, walking up the steps to the main house, lets me know she is going in temporarily to take a shower in case I turn around and do not see her sitting there.

As she stands there at the top of the steps smiling at me, the back lighting of the sun creates a transparency with the white cover-up she is wearing and I can easily see that she has already removed her bathing suit but instead of wondering where her suit might be, I stand there transfixed by her semi-nude body, remembering the first time I saw her like this and the first time we made love and fond memories touched and evaporated all over my body, leaving me shivering quickly that caused me to look away and when I looked back, she was gone.

It was only then that I notice that it had gone from dusk to dark rather quickly and wondered why this fast transition had occurred, frantically survey what little of the sky I could see around me for storm clouds, but as far as I could tell there were none. I puzzled over this for a while then lost track of why I was thinking about this in the first place and went back to my chair under the gazebo, to sit down and drink my cappuccino while waiting for my wife to return. I was somewhat disappointed because I had imagined us swimming in the pool later and both going commando.

This thought had actually stayed with me a lot longer than I thought it would have when I was brought out of my stupor by the sounds of a cat or what I thought at first might be a cat. I sat down my cup of cappuccino on the adjacent table and stood up, walking over to where I thought the sound might be coming from but once there saw nothing. And, wondering why I could see so well, instantly looked up and saw that there was a full moon over my shoulder, and again wondered how it had gotten that far up in the sky so fast... and, it was then that I saw the cat and immediately noticed that is was our neighbor's Siamese cat and remembered in a rather sarcastic way how she had informed us both one afternoon that it was a “registered” Siamese and that she had the papers.

My mind did not say on the Siamese cat for long but went directly to the cat's owner, our neighbor and with a somewhat sinister but seductive smile on my face tried to remember my neighbor's physical appearance but not just her face, as much as her entire body... and, not just her body in clothes per se, but her body (such as it was) without clothes... and, while our neighbor had always dressed in a provocative way, I could not (for the life of me) imagine what her body, devoid of clothes might, in fact, look like.

I was getting angry and upset at myself and my lack of creativity when I heard the cat cries again and this time I saw the cat actually sauntering (the words of its owner) between house in the direction of my neighbor's house... and I watched the Siamese saunter and saunter and decided that it was easier just to watch it walk. But, once at the house, the cat jumped up to a window ledge and just sat there licking itself, so I decided to walk over there to see if the cat would let me pet it. And, much to my amazement the cat not only let me rub it but the damn thing started purring as well which only reinforced my continued rubbing.

All of sudden, the light behind this window came on and I stood there transfixed and just knew that I was going to get caught and charged with being a peeping Tom. As I stood there looking through the curtain less window, I saw my neighbor but it did not look like that she could see me. The way I was positioned, I was to the side of the window on a little rise in the ground and could look directly into the room which was their bathroom. I had not thoughts in my head at all, until my neighbor started taking her clothes off and then all I could think about was wanting to be in there with her. I watched her take everything off and then I watched her do things to her body about which I had only read... and, as I watched her do these things, I could feel an embarrassed sensation swirl through my head as I felt a little faint.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I though I heard someone calling my name... shit, it was my wife... so, I grabbed the cat off the ledge and walking quickly back to our house, I said as I stepped back up on the deck, “Look what I found, the neighbor's cat.”
