Outside my window, across the street,
and into the open field my eyes see a flock of Wild Turkeys chasing a
Fox and my thoughts immediately flash to the drink while my wife
exclaims she is not going to walk on the streets anymore for
exercise... I tell her Foxes will not attack human beings unless
they are really desperate... and, a Sunday morning alarm is
deescalated and diffused.
It is in this same open field that I
have seen deer of all shapes and sizes roam around freely and without
circumstance as they have the intuition of no hunting today... and,
I am once again allowed to observe these magnificent creatures enjoy
some of the same freedoms that I do as I live free from terrorism
here in East Tennessee.
It was only a few days ago that the
world learned of Cecil the Lion being killed by a Dentist who paid
$50,000 for the right to do so and I wonder if the sport of hunting
animals leaves the hunter with the same pleasurable feelings as the
hunter who kills other human beings...
Man seems to have a propensity for WAR
and for KILLING human beings and animals as well as for CUTTING DOWN
trees in the name of progress or in some cases imminent domain but
that just seems like to me just a legal way to rationalize doing what
you are doing.
But, in reality, this is nothing new
for 20th or 21st Century MAN, because Caveman
MEN were killing each other and animals because they could or to
survive thousands of years ago... so, one could make a strong case
that it is in the DNA of MANKIND to kill... and, to destroy that on
which he dwells, specifically the environment... and, this is done
simply because ALL ELSE is subordinate to the WILL OF MAN.
However, Native Americans were
different and sought to achieve a balance within the TRINITY that
existed here in North America... that being: Man, Animal,
and the Land. And
this knowledge begs the question as to why did Native Americans see
this and the other Americans did not? Of course, this is a
rhetorical question... because the other Americans call it
PROGRESS.
What is mankind's legacy of EARTH?
We
are responsible for (but
not all explained):
- converting fresh water into polluted and contaminated water... According to an article published July 14, 2014, there is at least 35,000 tons of plastic floating in the ocean. A conservative estimate suggests that at least 1 million tons of plastic has entered the ocean since the 1970s and is still not know where all of that ocean plastic went.
- greater amounts of carbon dioxide and other Heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere... From the year 1850 to 2000 the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has risen exponentially, to about a level of 370 ppm in the year 2000.
- more pollution in air, more ozone
depletion... People want good transportation. That means
motor vehicles. More people mean more pollution in the air. Pollution
is eating away at the ozone. Ozone holes will develop as result of
pollution.
converting natural resources into garbage mountains... People buy things; garbage is a result of consuming. Garbage goes to landfills. - Radiation, radioactive waste... Nuclear power plants produce radioactive waste. The waste has to go somewhere. Radiation causes mutations which can lead to cancer and also cell death.
- Chemicals...
- Less insects and bugs...
- Deforestation...
- Habitat Destruction...
- Dams...
- Mining...
- Destruction of coral reefs...
- Heat-islands, roads, pavement, blacktop...
- Over-exploitation...
- Less Wildlife...
- Depletion of Natural Resources...
- Aral Sea gone...
- California sucked Owen's Lake dry...
- Weather and Climate...
- Melting glaciers...
- Rising sea levels...
- El nino/la nina oscillation...
- Length of growing season in Alaska increased from 1950 to 2000...
- Decrease in arctic sea ice cover from 1970 to 2000...
- Weather manipulation with particulate matter...
- Genetic Engineering...
- Converting natural organisms into unnatural, man-modified organisms...
So, what is it (do
you think) about mankind that creates a species of life that really
likes (almost loves) to kill, be killed, and destroy the land,
waters, and atmosphere simply because it is something that need to do
to become better human beings in a way that demonstrates their
accomplishments... and, are all those accomplishments really worth
it, when 100 YEARS from now the species called human beings
are no longer around... because species in general no longer inhabit
the EARTH... as a result of how a previous species lived and what
they thought they needed to do to survive.
In my neighborhood
here in East Tennessee, all of the homes except for our home has all
of its trees cut down except for miniature ornamental trees to
highlight to barren landscaping on which nothing but grass is grown.
We on the other hand, are planting trees, putting up bird feeders,
shrubs, bushes, and whatever... and, not just because it makes our
overall house look good but because it generates an environment for
animals... which, when we get a chance to observe them, gives us
pleasure...
And, across the
street from our house is this big open field almost completely
encircled by a wooded area and I get a chance to observe and admire
some beautiful creatures before mankind kills them.
If this is what a
bleeding heart liberal is... then, I am a bleeding heart liberal...
and, I am ashamed of my fellow Americans who believe and perceive
hunting to be a legitimate sport, when carrying around a high powered
rifle and can only see the animal that you are killing through the
magnification of the sights... just as if you were some sniper in
Afghanistan or Syria shooting at a soldier of ISIS.
If you want to
kill an animal, do it face-to-face and without the aid of a rifle or
even a bow and arrow... but I will loan you a 6 inch knife to
defend yourself... so, where are your BIG BRASS BALLS now my friend?
I believe in the
2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms for the public
and national defense... and, there ain't no way that I would ever
think of taking on the NRA as a bad organization for America...
but, it is because the NRA is like the 4th of July and
Apple Pie (Southern Style Only)... and, I think America should
defend itself against her enemies whether they be domestic or
international... but, when is a feeding deer our enemy that we have
to kill that creature with a 50 caliber sniper rifle? And, how does
that act make us a better American?
Why does mankind
destroy all it touches?
