Poem for Carson Newman College

At the present time, I am working as an Adjunct for Carson-Newman College, located in the eastern part of Tennessee.  As a new Adjunct, it was strongly suggested that I attend the Fresh Start class delivered by the Provost to all new full time faculty and staff members.  Our first of 14 classes, was Friday, September 2 and during that class I discovered that Carson-Newman College is considered to be a Christian College and interestingly there is only 100 or so Christian Colleges in the entire United States.

I will write more about Christian Colleges later, but suffice it to say, that it is nice to be at a place where my faith at work is allowed to flourish.  I also wrote the below poem and shared it with the Provost the next day.

In front of students we position ourselves
like Solomon's Temple -  words of wisdom

flow easily - retained and recited;

Christ-based learning is transferred.

 Deep within, souls of inspiration live
Rejuvenating and blessing us each day;

Living water in plain challises drink
Questioning  the world in which we live.

Cornerstones of careers lay before us,
good mentors,  adding value,  we have become

and…  in our humility, send- off theseguiding lights
into a world of pre-determined realitieson

their journey to everlasting lights of Heaven.

I'm sorry I can't be as enthusiastic. anything "christian" leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Especially the so-called "christian" half way houses for young girls and boys, where they are beaten, tortured and starved into submission! Allahu akbar is what I say!

Measuring all against a few is still wrong but understable because that is what we do these day.
